Abstract
In addition to aesthetic features, artwork reflects the social and cultural context of their production. One of the issues that can be achieved by studying the artwork of different periods is the concept of identity. Since the notion of identity implies "otherness", Cultural semiotics for the study of each culture, it also examines it in contrast to other cultures. According to theoretical consistency in the two fields, in the present article, it has been attempted to examine the identity of Safavid period art works in contrast to the Ottoman regime by using the semiosphere approach. To achieve this purpose, using the descriptive-analytical method and the semiotic approach, the cultural-political space between the Safavids and the Ottomans is drawn and the identity issue was analyzed as a case study in several works of art that came from Iran into the Ottoman space.
