The Impact of Cultural Dimension of Globalization on Ethnic Identity (case study: Bookan)

This study investigates the impact of cultural dimension of globalization on ethnic identity. It also attempts to explore the effect of cultural dimension of globalization on Kurdish ethnic identity in Boukan. This study considers theories of cultural dimension of globalization and ethnic identity as its theoretical framework. Respectively it uses Castle, Hall, Giddens and Robertson’s theories. The population at the level of significance of 0.95 and sample including 382 individuals living in Boukan were chosen based on Cochran formula and the data were analyzed by SPSS. The findings showed 95/5 of participants use satellite. It was also revealed that they use more Kurdish TV programs and that Kurdish radios and satellite programs are more reliable than other non-Kurdish programs.39.9 percent of participants had a highly positive attitude toward globalization, 57.3 percent were in the mid-way and remaining 3.4 percent were of a low opinion towards globalization. The main hypothesis of the study indicating a high attitude toward globalization leads to a weaker ethnic identity was confirmed. The coeffecint correlation between decentralization and ethnic identity, education and ethnic identity and income and ethnic identity are respectively (./336), (./126) and (./..4).
