Explaining the Role of the Jame Mosque of Yazd in Creating a Sense of Place & Identity to Urban Space

Abstract
In Islamic civilization, the Jame mosques in addition to be as the main factor of cities formation, they also determine overall pattern of the cities and common identity. The model & formation of the great mosques were conducted based on world population in each city. But today, the outer face of urban elements and thus urban space doesnot reflect the identity of the city's residents, also, we donot see identity elements in the new cities. But, in the historic city of Yazd, the Jame Mosque is still considered as a symbol of physical and spiritual identity of the city for the citizens. In this article, which was written based on descriptive and analytical methods and data collection techniques are Library and field methods, The main question is: Has the architecture of the Jame Mosque of Yazd been effective in creating a sense of place and identity in Yazd? According to the findings of this research the mosque architecture, especially in the direction of locating the building, the qualitative features of the building components such as materials, colors, using different symbols and Etc. has been effective in identifying the urban space of Yazd.
