National Costume Design Inspired by the Traditional Clothing of South Khorasan

Abstract
Ethnic groups around the world ever have tried to preserve their traditional costumes. Undoubtedly, Iranian wants to wear appropriate clothes based on their traditions and identity. South Khorasan is considered as the most important pole of the east of Iran. In designing the national costume, "Maintaining Iranian identity" is required. The present article studies the motifs and forms, clothes design and costume form in traditional clothing of people in South Khorasan. In this study, the climatic features, tradition, costumes and beliefs of the people are important and, the necessity for performing this research is to "make use of the wearing traditions and traditional costume in the current situation and cultural invasion". The aim of this research is to promote the appropriate models for Hijab by recognizing the traditional wearing elements of South Khorasan people and to perform a scientific and applied research for developing a new cultural use of the traditional and local costume and to design a national costume appropriate to sex, size, age and Iranian culture and religious values. The research method is descriptive – analytic. Data are gathered from libraries, photos from the anthropology museum in Birjand and the relevant references for costume are extracted from the cultural heritage organization and art center in Birjand. Some parts of the research methodology are field research and is conducted by exploring rural costumes in South Khorasan and traveling to rural areas, taking photos and interviewing.
