Kurds constitute a major Iranian people, who live in a vast land located in the western region. Although the kurdish land is Currently distributed between Iran, Syria, Turkey and Iraq, before its separation, this relatively large area was a part of political territory of the grand Iran (i.e. Iran before foreign occupations). Kurds have a certain culture with many similar aspects to the Iranian identity, which has, in turn, led to their integration with other Iranians. Taking into, account the role and position of the kurdish people in the socio - political changes, and its contribution to the promotion of national culture as well as economy, in the present volume of the Quarterly, the kurdish people and their region are analyzed from the viewpoints of both, sociocultural and historical/ political changes. In the first article, "Kurds and Kurdistan throughout history", the morphology of "kurd" is studied along with the historical stems of the inhabitants of Zagros mountains, particularly those of kurds, back to thousands of years ago. Contemplating on their situations during the history, the author attempts to historically examine the evolutionary process of religious and linguistic changes of the kurdish people. In the second article named, "Culture and Identity of Iranian kurds", an attempt is made at a quick introduction of political, social, cultural and behavioral characteristics of Iranian kurds, particularly those who live in kurdistan.
