Iranian Intellectuals and the puzzle of Identity

The current era is identified with the occupation of modern man with the puzzle of identity. In order to answer the questions of what and who regarding "self" versus "others", human beings mainly rely on knowledge and power. Hence, the concept of "national identity" is also related with the political and social aspects of the modern time, though it is rooted in the history. The Iranian national identity have been formed with the Constitutional Revolution and the reproduction of identity discourse in the traditional and recent histories as well as conditions of the country.
Since then, the Iranian intellectuals have restlessly attempted to develop the discourse of Iranian identity Versus "The other", which is supposed to be that of western countries. This article is aimed at the study of the efforts made at identity development from constitutional revolution to Islamic Revolution.
