Abstract
Referring to the growing process of ethnic conflicts in the era following the demise of the soviot union and the end of the cold war, the author studies the concept of identity crisis in the developed as well as developing countries.
After a contrastive study of the ethnic minorities’ situations in different countries all over the world, he examines the ever increasing problems of western democracies, facing the uncontrolled immigration of different nations into their territories and the concurrent increase of racist slogans propagated by different groups and parties. He believes that the emergence of civil society and democracy, accompanied by economic development can, in long term, restore the currently deteriorationg situations of the minorities in the developing countries.
