Abstract
In defining national identity, social scholars pay attention to terms such as cooperative approach in thought manner, emotions, and tendencies as synonymous with social identity. The issue of national identity is one of the most basic issue confronting societies, and hence deserves more attention. This is one of the functions of education, and more specifically universities. Since attention to national identity is not evident in higher education curricula, this research tends to show the status of collegiate hidden curriculum on the fortification of student’s national identity.
This survey is a descriptive research. Questionnaire has been used for collecting data. Students of Mazandaran University constitute the population for this study. Data shows that the collegiate hidden curriculum could not reinforce student’s national identity. It was also revealed that there is no significant difference among national identity and individual’s gender and college. On the other hand, the variables of gender and field of study do not have significant differences on the fortification or decrease of national identity while it is university atmosphere that has such an effect.
