Establishing relations between past architecture of the country and today’s, moreover carry on it is one of the solutions to solve what has made today’s architecture empty of contents and concepts also what has suffered it from the identity crisis. The present study is about how to revive the dome as an element of architectural identity of Iran. So, the dome, has been investigated from various aspects; using descriptive, analytic and comparative methods in library. As a result, Iranian dome, has indicators such as; the original history and aesthetics, also it has the natural strength of geometry. Likewise it keeps cool the covered space in warm season in hot-dry climate of Iran as well as it has provided architectural identity of central Persia in the past. Recognition of these factors would help us to revitalize this element in contemporary architecture.
