Assessment of Iranian Collective Identity, Emphasizing Social Solidarity

Abstract
A research entitled "Assessment of Iranian Collective Identity" was conducted by the Institute of National Studies on January 15, 2015, with a sample of 15034 people in the country (31 provinces) from 8 to 65 years old. The variable "social solidarity" is one of the main variables in this survey; this study deals with the results of measuring this important dimension of Iranian identity and describing it. The purpose of this study is to examine the issue of how Iranians tend to focus on their social solidarity, and What are their identity preferences. The most important questions of the research are: How is the social solidarity variable and collective cohesion among Iranian citizens? And Which of the dimensions of the social solidarity variable (feeling of friendship, feeling of pride and national commitment and generalism) is more prevalent among Iranian citizens? The results of the research indicate that among the components of social solidarity measurement, a sense of national commitment to the fate of the country, the pride of being Iranian, and maintaining the Islamic Republic and the feeling of friendship, respectively, have the most important role and contribution. In sum, the components of social solidarity are high.
