Abstract
Various factors influence the strengthening and weakening of collective identity, especially national identity. Understanding these factors and assessing their status at the community level, in addition to being able to predict the future status of values and national and collective identities, leads identity policy in a more precise and accurate direction. One of these factors is social values. The present study seeks to examine the extent of society's belief in the prevalence of social values. So, scrolling as a research method and a researcher-made questionnaire was used as a data gathering tool. In this regard, by selecting a statistical society among 15- to 65-year-olds residing in centers of 31 provinces of the country in 2014 and based on the Cochran formula and multi-stage sampling according to the population of each province, a total of 15040 individuals were selected as the statistical sample. Measurement of items indicates that the prevalence of social values in society has a positive and direct effect on the tendency toward national identity, and has negatively influenced the tendency of individuals to modern identity, therefore, strengthening social values leading to strengthen national identity.
