Although the kurdish land is Currently distributed between Iran, Syria, Turkey and Iraq, before its separation, this relatively large area was a part of political territory of the grand Iran (i.e. Iran before foreign occupations). Kurds have a certain culture with many similar aspects to the Iranian identity, which has, in turn, led to their integration with other Iranians. <br />Taking into, account the role and position of the kurdish people in the socio - political changes, and its contribution to the promotion of national culture as well as economy, in the present volume of the Quarterly, the kurdish people and their region are analyzed from the viewpoints of both, sociocultural and historical/ political changes. <br />In the first article, "Kurds and Kurdistan throughout history", the morphology of "kurd" is studied along with the historical stems of the inhabitants of Zagros mountains, particularly those of kurds, back to thousands of years ago. Contemplating on their situations during the history, the author attempts to historically examine the evolutionary process of religious and linguistic changes of the kurdish people. In the second article named, "Culture and Identity of Iranian kurds", an attempt is made at a quick introduction of political, social, cultural and behavioral characteristics of Iranian kurds, particularly those who live in kurdistan. کُردها یکی از اقوام بزرگ ایرانی هستند که در منطقه نسبتاً وسیعی در غرب کشور زندگی می‌کنند. اگرچه قلمرو فعلی کُردها بین کشورهای ایران، سوریه، ترکیه و عراق پراکنده شده است اما در عین حال قبل از تجزیه، این منطقه نسبتاً وسیع، تماماً در حوزه قلمرو سیاسی ایران بزرگ قرار داشت. کُردها دارای فرهنگ و خصوصیات فرهنگی و اشتراک‌های هویتی با مردمان ساکن در ایران هستند که موجب پیوند و انسجام آنان با سایر هم‌میهنان خود در ایران شده است.<br /> با توجه به نقش و جایگاه قوم کُرد در تحولات سیاسی ـ اجتماعی کشور و جایگاهی که منطقه کُردستان در فرهنگ و اقتصاد ملی ایفا نموده است، در این شماره از فصلنامه در نظر است، قوم کُرد و منطقه کُردستان از دو نگاه، یکی از نگاه تحولات تاریخی و تاریخ سیاسی اجتماعی و دیگری از منظر فرهنگی و اجتماعی معرفی و مورد تجزیه و تحلیل قرار گیرد.<br /> در مقاله نخست تحت عنوان «کُردها و کُردستان در گذر زمان» واژه‌ی کُرد و منشاء تاریخی این واژه، اقوام ساکن در سلسله جبال زاگرس به‌ویژه کُردها در پهنه‌ی چند هزار ساله و سرنوشت آنان در پرتو تاریخی مورد بررسی قرار گرفته و تلاش شده است از بُعد تاریخی سیر تحول مذهب و زبان این قوم تجزیه و تحلیل شود. در مقاله دوم با عنوان «فرهنگ و هویت ایرانیان کُرد» سعی شده است به اختصار ویژگی‌های سیاسی، اجتماعی، فرهنگی و رفتاری کُردها در ایران به‌ویژه استان کُردستان معرفی شود.
